Mazar Sharif of Shahenshah Hazrat Syed Ziaul Haq Maizbhandari

Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Ziaul Huq Maizbhandari (Shahanshah):

Shahanshah Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Ziaul Huq Maizbhandari appears to be an unparallel of his time. Indeed, he has glorified the history of Sufism by his own virtues and attainment of unprecedented spiritual capabilities. He was born on 25th December, 1928, corresponding to 10th Poush of 1335 Bengali Calendar Year. This is a red-letter day in the anecdotes of Maizbhandar Sharif. He is the son of Hazrat Delwar Hossain Maizbhandari, who is the grandson and heir of Hazrat Gausul Azam Maizbhandari Shah Sufi Moulana Syed Ahmed Ullah (Hazrat Kebla Kaba). His mother is Syeda Shajeda Khatun, who is the daughter of Hazrat Shah Sufi Moulana Syed Golamur Rahman (Baba Bhandari). In this way, Shahanshah Maizbhandari is connected with three great powerful spiritual personalities – Hazrat Kebla Kaba, Baba Bhandari and Hazrat Delwar Hossain Maizbhandari. As indicated earlier, Hazrat Delwar Hossain Maizbhandari was directly blessed by Hazrat Kebla Kaba, and Baba Bhandari and achieved a very high level spiritual attainment. On the 7th day of his birth, Shahanshah was named as "Syed Ziaul Huq". His father was directed through a dream by Hazrat Kebla Kaba to keep this name. At the age of 21 days, Shahanshah Syed Ziaul Huq Maizbhandari became so ill that there was no sensation in his body. Physicians prescribed medicine but that did not work. Everyone in the family got very worried. At that time, his older grand mother Syeda Rabeya Khatoon came up and brought the baby to Hazrat Shah Sufi Moulana Syed Golamur Rahman (Baba Bhandari) and on her appeal for his grace towards the baby he extended his hand over the body of Shahanshah and asked to pour water on his (Baba Bhandari’s ) hand. Seven jars of water were poured. Thereafter, Baba Bhandari took 2 to 3 drops of water from his hand, and put it into the mouth of the Baby Shahanshah. The baby then at once got back into normalcy and opened his eyes. Through this event Baba Bhandari, indeed poured his spiritual power to Shahanshah. Shahanshah started his early education in a local school and passed Entrance Examination with credit in 1949 from the Chittagong Collegiate School. He then completed his post-secondary education and proceeded to his graduate studies. On the third day of his BA Examination, he came out from the examination hall and getting back home he threw out all his books and made himself absorbed with spiritual meditation. This phenomenon can be understood in the context of a statement made by a famous religious scholar Hazrat Moulana Rumi (RA): "Burn the pages of your books; bloom your heart with real truth". In fact, in this way Shahanshah was admitted into the spiritual teaching institution of Maizbhandar Sharif. With the passage of time, Shahanshah increased his level of meditation and almost withdrew himself from the worldly affairs. He very often abstained from sleeping and taking meals. In the meantime, Shahanshah obtained spiritual power from his father and advanced himself in the hierarchy of going much nearer to Allah. Once Shahansha’s father Syed Delwar Hossain Maizbhandari mentioned: "The power poured on him (Shahanshah) by me, could, if poured on (Moni) hills, move it; if poured in the ocean, it could be dessert. But he is still bearing it since he belongs to my heirdom". Successively, Shahanshah endeavoured hard to achieve the real end and engaged him in austere worship of Allah. In order to practice ascetic austerities, he very often used to leave human-habitation. On 28th January, 1955; Shahansha’s weeding ceremony took place but still his attention could not be diverted from the path of Allah, where he liked to be engulfed in every moment. Most of the time he used to gaze continuously at the holy shrine of Gausul Azam Maizbhandari Hazrat Kebla Kaba. Sometimes he used to stand on one foot for hours together. In many occasions, he lit cigarettes and kept those on his ear. He then devoted to the cause of his Beloved while the cigarette end burnt his ear or head, which was not acknowledged and felt by him. During such endeavour, he did not take food for days together and with no sleep for several consecutive nights. Shahanshah used to travel different hills, jungles, town, cities, sea-beaches and other places where he wished. He was sober and abstemious in his diet and sometimes rigorously observed fasts for 10/12 days at a stretch. He indulged himself in no magnificence of apparel. He treated friends and strangers, the rich and poor, the strong and the weak with equity and was loved for his affability by the common people regardless of creed and casts. Shahanshah surmounted all obstacles and proclaimed Allah’s glory by making full use of his divine faculties and powers. He achieved complete perfection and devoted all his efforts for guiding the people in the correct path and created illustrations for the human welfare. His Karamats are countless. Shahanshah often used to remind his disciples of the daily prayers and fasts and said: "Regular saying of prayers and fasting increase livelihood, cure all diseases and bereavements and preserve sound body and mind". On 13th October, 1988, corresponding to 26th Ashwin of 1395 Bengali Calendar Year, Shahanshah left this world leaving his only son Shazada Syed Muhammad Hassan (MA) as his successor to carry on the torch of the Maizbhandari teachings.
